When we asked Hannahbelle what kind of birthday she wanted — she answered “PINK”. Well, here it is! As you know I like to challenge myself with our kids cakes. This time I tried sugar flowers. They are all made by me and edible! Enjoy!
Hannah’s “Pink” Birthday Cake
The Cake
Abby asked for “A Super Mario Bros. cake with Luigi in his helicopter suit riding a blue Yoshi.” Hrm. Okay
I decided I would give the Topsy Turvy cake one more try. It has beaten me twice. I was determined that THIS cake would stand! I loved the cake! The only thing that disappointed me was the buttercream. I pride myself on my buttercream skills – and they just lacked on this cake. Or were just downright awful :/ I had to handle this cake quite a bit to get it stacked. Fondant would have been a better choice. But I love buttercream and so that is what I chose. In the end, the characters were spectacular and the cake stood and it was delicious. Our 5 year old didn’t complain about the botched buttercream — and I’m hoping the party guests were so excited about the characters on the cake that they didn’t notice too much either! Enjoy the pics!
Lynn came to visit!
I haven’t been the greatest friend. Lynn has lived “close” to me for almost a year and I’ve only been to visit her once. We had a heart to heart and we agreed to do our best to see each other at least once a month from now on. So, a couple days after my birthday – here she was!! I felt horrible. This cold has been hanging around for a couple weeks now. I was run down and really dragging. In she walks with presents, lunch, a mini key lime birthday cake (YUMMY), stuff from her garden, canned goods – and a couple kids
So my kids played with her kids and she and I enjoyed some much needed girlfriend time. We laughed, we read magazines, we sewed, we cooked, we drank a margarita, we ate salsa and cake & ice cream of course!
The kids had a blast on the swing and the slip n slide. Lynn and I purchased the Zac Brown Band album off of Apple TV and took the outdoor speaker to the patio. It was nice to sit under the umbrella and watch the kids play for a minute listening to some new music!
Lynn opened her birthday presents. I made her what I’d like to call the iBake
It is a reversible apron that has a tiny pocket on each side. Inside the pocket is a button hole. Her iPod or phone fits in the small pocket and the cord to her headset can go through the button hole (behind the apron) and up to her ears. This will keep that pesky cord out of her pancakes and bread!!
Then I opened my presents! It all had a lime margarita theme! Even the card! Imagine that!!!
Handmade soap and lip balm. A beautiful card… and of course some margaritas! You’ll also see that she brought us some homemade salsa!!! Super yummy!
Little Miss Hannahbelle had a rough day. She was really cranky. Fortunately, Lynn hasn’t had a 2 year old for a couple of years, so she kinda liked holding a baby for a bit. And from the looks of it Hannah kind of liked it too
And my birthday cake! It was a key lime cake. It was so good!!! Notice the little carrier she brought it in?? How cute is that!!?? I should have placed something beside it. this thing is like the size of my palm!
It was a super fantastic day. I was sick… but she had all the bases covered. I can’t wait to see you again friend!
