Walking back to the house

What a fun trip down to the dock. We are hot and worn out! At least we caught one fish!

Dear Grandpa McCrary,

I miss you. We’ve bought a new house and I’m so sad that you don’t get to see it. One step!! Only one step and you would be right inside. I often find myself thinking I should call to tell you about the changes we are making – but you aren’t here to call. It seems the list of numbers I usually call for holidays and big events is getting smaller and smaller. I know I’m so fortunate to have had you in my life for so long. But it just really makes it quite difficult for me now. I’ve had a hundred reasons I’ve needed to call you.

We’ve had some pretty bad weather lately and I miss your calls.  You always called to check on me, every single storm. Just so you know, I’m doing okay. We can hear the tornado siren from inside our house. I’ll know to go to the basement. But I still miss your call.

We have a really big flat yard that the girls love. I finally used the money you gave them to buy a swing set. Well, you bought a portion of the swing set. :) You would love it! It is HUGE. They will be able to climb and slide and swing SO high!! Adults can even swing on it. I so wish you could have played with them on it just once. I have the greatest memories of you taking me to the park in Du Quoin. I loved those times.

You are an incredible man. I miss you so much. I love you.

That time again!

By Meagan Uncategorized No Comments »

I was standing outside talking to Tim (roof guy) and then I heard it – a very distorted POP GOES THE WEASEL!! Panic struck when I realized I didn’t have any dollars. Then I turned to Tim and said, “Eeks, I sure hope she doesn’t hear that!” I looked back toward the house and a sad little face was pressed against the window. I ran to the door and told her I’d look for dollars. When I couldn’t find any, I remembered the change jar! The girls didn’t have shoes on, but it was such a beautiful day we just didn’t care! I scooped up Hannah and Abby followed close behind. Then we waited. And waited. And waited some more!! It seems the other end of the neighborhood must have lots of kids! Finally we heard the music again. Abby, of course, picked out the chocolate cone! I set them free in the backyard. Shoeless and dripping with chocolate! It was a good afternoon. I came in the house to keep packing. And out of the corner of my eye I caught the most beautiful sight. Abby was sharing. I didn’t make her. I wasn’t even supervising. I’m not gonna lie – I think a tear rolled down my face. No matter what I tell you at 7pm when we’ve all had a very long day – we have two very good girls :)

Well, we are down to a couple weeks. I guess I need to believe this is really going to happen and start packing some boxes. Our close date is 3/29.  We may get to move on the 26th. Everyone please cross your fingers :)

***UPDATE*** We were not granted early possession. We will be moving on 3/29.

It was kinda muddy the day we went to the house so I didn’t take any pics from the front or back yard. Sorry :( This is the picture that their realtor took. It is kinda small.

Here is our new front door. I really hope to someday get a storm door :) Hint Hint!! It has a very nice front porch.

This is an arial view. SO MUCH more yard!! I can’t wait for the girls to be able to run and play!!

When you walk in there is 5″ plank hard wood. Directly in front of you is the family room. The living room is to your left and the dining room to your right. There is a small walkway with a 1/2 bath between the dining room and kitchen. The white doors in the middle picture are a closet on the left and the basement on the right.

Looking back at the front door.

Looking around the family room. I love that it is a clear shot to the kitchen. I also love that the stairs are to the side and not the very first thing you see when you walk through the door. The kitchen does have a bay with sliding glass door to an aggregate patio. The backyard is fenced and ready for kids! ;)

As much as I love the house… I really don’t love the kitchen :( It is the one part of the house that NEEDS upgrades. I do love the HUGE island :) But the appliances and cabinets/counters just aren’t my favorite. I hope to fix this in time :) I do like the floor. It is 18″ ceramic tile. I just think the orange floor/wall/cabinet combo is a bit much :)

The laundry room and pantry are through the kitchen. This is also where the door from the garage enters the house. There is a window in this room but the pic didn’t turn out. The pantry isn’t huge but it will do. I hope to take down the wire shelves and add more cabinet type storage. My dream vision would be to have this be more of a walk in pantry with a washer/dryer :) Can you imagine how excited I am to have laundry on the main floor right by that HUGE island??? :) :) :)

Let’s go upstairs! BONUS ROOM!!! I really really wanted a bonus room for the girls. This one has several windows – so it was too bright for a pic of the front wall :/ The two pics I have are looking to the right – where we hope to put the entertainment center and to the left – which shows the entrance to the master bedroom.

In the master bedroom.

The master bath has two walk in closets. A nice big tub. Two sinks. A shower and a toilet :) (I didn’t take a pic of the last item. eww)

Guess which ones mine? :)

To finish off the upstairs we have three more bedrooms. Two have walk in closets and one has a his and her pair of closets. There is one full bath for the three bedrooms to share and a hall closet for linens and towels.

We are super excited! I’m not sure if you can tell in the pics – but we feel most of the light fixtures and faucets have been upgraded. That is one thing we had to do in our current house and I’m thrilled we won’t have to do in the new house :) Even the ceiling fans seem pretty nice!

Because of the timing of the move will will be delaying Hannah’s family bday parties till April. Hopefully this summer we can have everyone over for a bbq to see our new place!

How the pros do it.

This picture is only impressive if you’ve seen my house and know how big the hill is on the other side of that ladder! :)

We had to get out of the house for several house on Sunday because we were having an open house. We decided to go check out airplane park and Lone Elk Park. Usually I go to LEP first — but today I decided to check for airplanes. As soon as we pulled in we noticed a long cable laying on the ground at the first flying area. We’ve never seen this type of airplane so we decided to stop and watch. The closer we got we realized there wasn’t a plane attached to the cable but instead A BALD EAGLE!!! The folks from the World Bird Sanctuary  were there training two of their Eagles. It was such an awesome thing to see!
